Meet Hilary Unger

Democrat Candidate for 248th District Court

Democrat Candidate Hilary Unger
for 248th District Court Judge

Over her twenty-five years as an attorney, lifelong Democrat Hilary Unger knows that that justice can only be equitable when it is tempered with the core democratic principles of fairness, equality and compassion. A graduate of the University of Florida College of Law, her broad range of experience affords her an impartial perspective, allowing her to view cases without bias. Her extremely-high code of moral, ethical values is supported by her two years as an assistant district attorney and her ten as a public defender  both in New York, where she dedicated her time and passion to helping economically-disadvantaged clients. In 2007, Hilary moved to Houston so she could live closer to her family.

For the past ten years, Hilary has appeared regularly in the Texas State and Federal Courts, building a reputation for combining her experience and skill with an uncompromising willingness and ability to work hard to safeguard the rights of her clients and obtain the best possible outcome for them.

Hilary’s father and grandfather were proud members of IBEW and she has taken on the family tradition of activism. She is a legal observer for the ACLU, a member of the Spring Branch Democrats, Houston GLBT Political Caucus, Harris County Tejano Democrats, and the Harris County Democratic Lawyer’s Association. Also, as a member of NOW, she is a staunch advocate for the equal rights for all women.

As a former member of the Association of Legal Aid Attorneys (UAW Local 2325 - 1989-1992), she has gone on strike with her fellow union members and has walked a picket line. Recently she has been a Volunteer Deputy Registrar, has canvassed neighborhoods, attended phone banks and has volunteered for political campaigns. In 2016 and 2017, she participated in the Women’s March and protested at Texas A&M when the white supremacist, Richard Spencer, presented his white nationalist agenda to students.

Hilary also sets a wonderful example for her daughter, Mari, and son, Preston, who regularly attend NOW meetings, have attended phone banks and have block walked. As a family they have also lobbied Texas legislators for more stringent human trafficking legislation and have attended such events as the Houston Community Vigil for Orlando.

Harris County needs strong leadership that can fairly administer equal and impartial justice, with compassion for all. With two-and-a-half decades of experience as both a prosecutor and as a defense attorney, Hilary Unger is the right choice for Judge for the 248th Criminal District Court.
